Chapter Nine

Nadine went back to her place. She ordered some takeout and ate alone while planning on exactly how she was going to take out the remaining three men. She soon was asleep and dreamed a plan. As soon as she woke up, she wrote it down while it was still fresh in her mind. She would eliminate the remaining three men with different methods to confuse the police.

With her new found money, she rented an apartment in a high rise not too far from where she lived. She was going to throw a party. She thought of luring in Steven, and sent him an email:

‘Steven, do you remember me? We met on Erik’s yacht about a week ago. It’s funny, but the whole thing is a blur to me now. Anyway, I thought we could get together. I’m throwing a party in a couple weeks - if you’re interested, I’ll send you an invite. Xoxo Nadine.’

Steven saw a notification on his phone and opened it. He read the message from Nadine and thought to himself ‘this chick didn’t remember anything!’. He responded. Hey Nadine, of course I remember you, how could I forget?! Sure, send me an invite - sounds like fun.

She saw his response and didn’t immediately respond. She had some things to take care of first.

She found a hardware store and walked in. She wore a scarf and dark glasses that covered most of her face. She bought an angle grinder, a soldering gun, solder, some metal tubing and a carrying case. She gave the items to the cashier.

“You into construction?” the cashier asked her.

“It’s for my husband; we’re remodeling, and he wanted me to pick up some items while he was out of town.”

“That’ll be $240 pounds.”

She gave him cash and walked out the door. She was about to request an Uber when she saw a taxi and hailed it down. She arrived home in ten minutes.

She texted Steven, ‘Great. Looking forward to seeing you.’

Steven got the text and thought this chick hasn’t a clue. Wait till I get her alone again.

Nadine fixed herself something to eat and then went on the Internet to find a place to rent for the party. She found a high rise with a vacancy on the thirty-fifth floor. She saw that it had a balcony. She sent an email asking to see it. She booked an appointment for the next day and laid back on her couch, watched a few episodes of a show on her laptop until her eyes got tired and drifted off to sleep. She was out for eight hours and awoke refreshed and ready to attack the day. She got breakfast at Starbucks and then went to meet the person showing the apartment.

She got dropped off outside the building, walked into the foyer and met a young woman in her late twenties.

“You must be Evelyn. I’m Audrey Romanov. As I mentioned, my husband and I are off to Mallorca for two months and are subletting. Is that acceptable to you?”

“Yes, I actually only need it for 6 weeks so that should work out if you feel comfortable.”

“Let me show it to you first and see if you like it.”

They went up the elevator to the 35th floor and Audrey opened Apartment 3523.
“It’s spacious. Look around.”

Nadine took a tour and checked out the balcony. It was a sheer drop to the street.

“It’s perfect” Nadine said.

“Great. I’ll just need the two months in advance and a security deposit.”

They concluded the arrangements and Nadine got up to leave.

“We’ll be leaving this weekend. Here’s a set of keys. Feel free to move on Sunday. I’m sure you’ll be happy with it. We both love it.”

“I’m sure I will too. Nice to meet you, Audrey.”

Nadine left the building and smiled to herself, imagining Steven’s glorious high dive.
