Lethal Habit - Chapter Fourteen
Chapter Fourteen
Douglas was playing a round of golf with some of his pals at a private country club. The thought of Nadine popped in his head.
She was a good fuck, even if she was half conscious during the act. Erik knew how to pick them though he charged too much. Ah well, he’d screw him over on some deal to get even.
Nadine went to a nearby Catholic Church and went to the confession booth.
“Father forgive me, for I have sinned.”
“What is it my child?”
“I was raped. I killed the man who did it.”
“Tell me what happened.”
“I was drugged and taken advantage of by two men when I couldn’t defend myself. I know it’s wrong to kill, but I was compelled to do it.”
“Have you atoned for your sins?”
“Yes, father.”
“Make a promise to God that you will not engage in the taking of lives in the future. Say one hundred Hail Mary’s and your sins are forgiven.”
“Thank you, Father.”
She left feeling somewhat relieved. She hadn’t really agreed to the priest’s instruction to refrain from killing. She likened herself to the avenging angel, a dispenser of justice. In the Old Testament there was much killing when people had disobeyed the will of God. She felt the same about what she had done and was about to do. There was no need for her to confess. Evil cannot go unpunished as that perpetuates it.
She went to a restaurant. She liked the feeling of being served. As she st down, as if by some strange magic, Douglas walked in. She had an idea. She walked over to his table.
“Remember me?”
Douglas looked up and couldn’t believe he’d actually run into her after just thinking about her.
“Yes, I do,” he said.
“I was just leaving and saw you. Here’s my number. Let’s stay in touch.”
And with that she left.
He smiled to himself and entered her number into his phone.
‘God works in mysterious ways’ he thought to himself and enjoyed his meal, not unlike the disciples of Jesus in the Last Supper.
